Before any of the features

For some people,
noise isn't background.

Most headphone copy treats noise as an annoyance. For a lot of people it isn't in the way of anything — it is the thing at the front of their attention, all day.

With ADHD, the problem usually isn't volume. It's that nothing recedes: the fridge, the office, the traffic and the conversation two desks away all arrive with the same urgency as the thing you're trying to do. What helps isn't silence. It's choosing what gets to be loudest.

If you're autistic or sound-sensitive, it's a different shape: not the level, the suddenness.

The first half
happens with the

A deep foam pad seals against your head rather than pressing on your ear, and does the largest part of the job mechanically, before a single circuit is involved.

Heavys' own spec is plain about it: "high efficiency PNC combined with a mild ANC." For sensitive ears that order matters more than the decibel figure — less processing means less of the hiss and pressure that heavy cancelling leaves behind.

Turned down,

Hell Blocker is Heavys' name for the active noise cancellation. The honest version: it's very good, and it isn't silence. Reviews describe the subway disappearing and a crying baby becoming survivable. Nobody describes a vacuum.

For this audience that's a feature, not a caveat. Total silence is its own kind of unsettling, and aggressive cancelling is exactly what produces the pressure sensitive ears notice first. You get a world with its edges taken off.

Will this treat my ADHD, autism or anxiety?

No. The H1H is a pair of consumer headphones with no clinical claim attached. If you're looking for a therapeutic intervention, this isn't one.

What's true is that a lot of neurodivergent, anxious and sound-sensitive customers wrote to Heavys unprompted to say these are what they reach for. That's the only claim this page makes, and it's theirs, not ours.

Will they look like hearing protection?

They look like large matte-black over-ear headphones. Nothing reads as medical or protective equipment — to a room, you're a person wearing headphones, which is the most unremarkable thing you can have on your head.

Straight about the trade: they're big and visible. What they aren't is defenders, plugs, or anything that invites a question about why you're wearing them.

Can I still hear my kid, or my name?

Yes. The switch on the cup has a third position — transparency — which opens the outside back up while your audio keeps playing. Nothing to take off, nothing to pause, no app. That single detail is why customers wear these in situations where headphones would normally be out of the question.

How much of the noise actually goes away?

A lot, not all of it. Heavys' spec describes "high efficiency PNC combined with a mild ANC" — the seal does most of the work, the electronics tidy up. Customers describe the subway disappearing and a crying baby becoming manageable. Nobody describes silence.

For sensitive ears that's usually the point: a gentler active layer means less of the hiss and pressure aggressive cancelling produces.

Are they comfortable for a whole day?

The honest caveat is weight: 410 g. It's carried across a wide padded band rather than clamped on your ears, which is why comfort is still the most praised thing about them — but if you want a featherweight headphone, this isn't it.

What happens when the battery dies?

They keep working. Wired Pure Passive uses no power, so with the included cable they play at zero percent with the seal still doing its half. USB-C carries digital audio too, so one cable covers a laptop, phone or handheld while charging. Worth being certain about rather than hopeful about.

Do I need to like metal?

No. The eight-speaker layout was designed around the hardest case: dense, fast music where everything competes for the same space. What that leaves you with is separation — instruments and voices in different places instead of one wall. If your goal is for one thing to hold your attention, separation is the useful part, and it works the same on a podcast or brown noise.

Can I claim these on insurance or an FSA/HSA?

Possibly, and it's worth asking. Heavys' own page says you can "apply to get the H1H Headphones potentially covered by your insurance with physicians note."
